Knights of Avalon

Roy Selwyn Smith Heraldic Knights

Selwyn Smith Heraldic Knights were in 54mm scale a total of ten designs in all. Designed and   manufactured in 1951  for sale in the USA., they  were issued as named Knights.

Most models with a few exceptions were correctly painted. in the named knights Heraldic colours.

Sadly with the death of Otto Gottstein his business partner the Company was sold and the moulds were sold to Britains, which were renamed as the Knights of Agincourt.

The very short production life of approx nine months that these models had is reflected in the sale room prices.

They occasionally come up at auction and if you are like me and they are way out of your budget its a great place to at least see them in the flesh

Its true of all the great makers past and present you can't fully appreciate them from photographs.

Christies in London auctioned these figures in March 2000

The beauty of the Selwyn Smiths sculptures were still not lost under Britains control even though they were given simplified heraldic designs not relating to any named knight.

For me, they are the ultimate designed toy knight. Please see Britains page and the Agincourt Knights

I would like to thanks Christies for the use of their catalogue photographs.
