In 1952 Britain still had exchange control restrictions,
the many millions of dollars MGM had in British banks, their earnings from the war
years, but locked away in Britain. This was the money used to finance Ivanhoe.
When no Castle was found, it was built,
and left for
nearly a year to to age. No money was spared on the sets they were lavishly
dressed and well stocked with extra's.

Great cast Robert Taylor as Ivanhoe, a stunning looking
Elizabeth Taylor, and an equally beguiling Joan Fontaine. George Sanders
being as he could, utterly convincing as a bad sort, with a almost soft
center in the end.
The film was nominated for three Academy awards and was one MGM high grossing
film in 1952.........
