When a battle was fought 700 years ago there are so
many questions as to where, when, etc.
Siveldeston was this the area of the first action,
did Gilbert de Clare surprise Simons Welsh foot soldiers lead by De
Bohun. We do know the foot soldiers were routed. Hundreds were either
killed at Siveldeston or looking for a way of escape ran down the hill
to the river Avon.
To get to this spot, travel to the Evesham Country
Park which is off a roundabout on the A44.
Walk through the car park, past the small gauge
railway, straight on and down to the River Avon.
At the bank turn right and keep on till you come to
a single track dirt road, this leads to a main road.
Siveldeston is the area of land to your right, the
river is too your left ( river can't be seen).
Not much to see, its fenced in, apparently a very
old stone boundary wall was reported to have been removed years before, I would
like to know more, perhaps in the future more detail will come to light.
If you back track a little you can walk to the river
and the area where the soldiers fled and were slaughtered. Local folk law
say that many were buried in an area near by called Deadman's Ait which
is to your left. It was a small island but has now joined
this area as we walk to the river bank.
