Knights of Avalon

Alymer toy knights

Alymer knights are still in production and are available both painted and as castings.

The knight figures below are from the 1987 Banners Forward series.

These named 54mm Knights are from the battles of Crecy  and Poitiers the figures were well modelled and painted. It should be noted that the heraldic design is raise for ease of painting.

The Heraldry for the series was provided by Peter Greenhill, who supplied detailed work sheets. The two sheets of sketches shown below were kindly provided by Peter and would stand as works of art on their own.

These figures on this page are all from the original 500 limited editions and in most case correctly follow the heraldic sketches  .

It was a nicely conceived and executed set of named knights

Each figure had a number such as 205/ 500 and a short history on the named knight and was sold in a dark green box.

The design allowed for detachable helms like some of Courtenays, an nice touch.

Although the series sold well the company went bankrupt in 1996.

The story did not end there, former employees started a company called Worldart and produced more figures in the Banner Forward series. Again these were in limited editions of 500. The bases being stamped Worldart, instead of Alymer.

The story then got very complicated when Alymer started production again, resulting in figures from both companies being produced.

The Alymer figures  are again available in both painted and casting, without any limit.

The net result is that the earlier figures lost value and can be bought for less than they originally cost in some case.

The original knights are finished and painted to a higher standard than the new production models.

The series is once again available in painted and unpainted casting. although its felt by most collectors that the painting is not as good as the first limited editions.
