Knights of Avalon

Timpo plastic King Arthur

Timpo in their literature only refer to these knights by KN numbers, but the figure in in green with the yellow shield must surely be king Arthur. The lion motif on his shield is a reversed copy of the earlier hollowcast Arthur shied. The mounted knight also has the unicorn motif belonging to Sir Mordred. The Standing figures are grey plastic and their faces, shield, plumes, etc were hand painted. Because of this expensive form of production they were quickly phased out and replaced by other knights made from different coloured plastic where no hand painting was required. This move to other model designs finished Timpo Toys connection with Round Table figures.

The figure in green is a King Arthur figure, produced from 1957 for a few years, he also be found in yellow and blue.

Take care when handling, as they are prone to snap in two. The years have not be kind to these plastics, probably because of too much talcum powder being used in production. The very materials used to help them from their moulds, destroying them in later life.

The Knight with the Unicorn on his shield must be Sir Mordred KN 37, the yellow Knight KN 36 with the lions I like to think is King Arthur as Timpo always gave him lion shields.

This range Timpo mounted knights were numbered KN 30 to KN 38 , as I haven't found any past 38 and the Roman figures started at KN 40
The mounted knights were sold in single boxes.

The Knight on the right is number KN 38 and I believe this figure is Richard the Lionheart.

This standing range, much later reappeared and is still available as far as I'm aware in bendy grey coloured plastic.
